As a result, the developer appears to be choosing the nuclear choice, saying "we're planning in the future to take the Duel Arena out of RuneScape entirely." Until then it will put in place "some immediate actions" to improve PvP "until our team of developers can OSRS gold release an update major enough to completely takes over the Duel Arena next year."
These will include a cap at the maximum amount GP (or gold points), players can stake on a match at the Duel Arena. Players can bet "no greater than fifty million GP per duel". The additional measures have not been elaborated on yet.
Jagex states that "a brand new game that will play out as part the Elder God Wars storyline" will replace Duel Arena at the beginning of 2022, but no further details have been released yet.
Although the effect of these changes remains to be seen however, they seem to be the most robust measures any studio has attempted to stop external abuse of its systems to gain profit. If they succeed, similar actions might be found in the MMO space in future.
Jagex have announced, after 18 years of being the PvP battlefield, Duel Arena will be ending its presence in RuneScape and a new region can be created. RuneScape will be introducing Het's Oasis and a brand new terrain, new skills as well as two brand new mini-quests that you can play.
Kicking off today with the Oasis Restoration, players will be tasked by the task of transforming the Duel Arena following a cataclysmic earthquake that has devastated the area. They will work together to turn the ruins of the arena from "a bloody pit of fighting, in which heroes have made a living from one-on-1 match-ups, to a serene area."
Players will be able to reconstruct the region and take on daily tasks that will reward them according to their performance. Anyone who takes part in the event for community members will receive exclusive event rewards which include a brand new animal crocodile, a title the theme of deserts in cosmetic armour, as well as Gators' shoes.
Following the two-week event for the community The rebuilt area will be named Het's oasis is a place for learning and exploration, with new skills-related content for those looking to develop their Agility farming and hunting skills.
"Heroes can also aid the God of Death in two Eye of Het mini-quests as they go into the Tomb of Het to find a powerful object that can aid the gods who are young in the Elder God Wars saga," the press release reads.
In a brand new event that will run from now until March 3, 2022, players will be able to receive a brand new version of the classic "Partyhat" that was an item that was initially only available at Christmas at the time of 2001. Originally available in red, green, yellow as well as white, purple or red, RuneScape's "The Golden Party Hat Hunt" quest will allow players to obtain one of the popular cosmetics with a shiny sheen.

For a chance to own the heads of a Golden Party Hat, players must fulfill "various goals" and earn eight golden shards as a reward for their efforts. After the eight shards are collected, they can be made into the Golden Party Hat.
